The Only Thing Inevitable

“You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself. That is something you have charge of.” – Jim Rohn

One thing I am sure this girl goes through is a lot of changes: relationships, family, friends, work, even her home. Maybe she’s indecisive, picky, fickle-minded, unreliable? No. She just goes through a lot of things in her life that push her to make changes so that she can move on to better things. It is not easy to have things taken from underneath you. It is not easy to be forced to face reality when you’re not ready. It is not easy to put on a smile when all you really want to do is break down and cry.

M wonders why all these things happen to her but she toughs it out and takes responsibility for the things she knows she has caused. It is much easier to point fingers at people and say, “things are going wrong for me because they’re jealous or hateful.”  M knows when the changes need to come from herself. She understands that she cannot control others, but she can control herself.

Do you find yourself blaming others for your misfortune? Do you blame the government for not having a job? Do you blame your spouse/partner for your failing relationship? Do you blame your boss for making your life miserable? Have you thought of what you can do to make YOUR life easier?

As Maya Angelou said, “If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.”
